Even if you’re aware that stress can do such destructive things to you and your body, you may not really realize just how much it can put a beating on how you look.

Even if you’re aware that stress can do such destructive things to you and your body, you may not really realize just how much it can put a beating on how you look. Sure, you know how it affects your health, but it goes way more than that. Long-term stress, the kind that stems from constant anxiety about a certain unhappy situation, can cause an increase in your cortisol hormone levels. The persistent spikes and dips do take a toll on your physicality. If this is coupled with some bad lifestyle habits, this could even turn from bad to worse. When you’re panicking, it shows in your face and body. There are telltale signs everywhere.

Yes, times are difficult. There are more demands placed on you, and sometimes, you really don’t know how to balance your schedule. But that doesn’t mean your looks have to suffer. You simply have to pinpoint your specific trouble zones. Of course, lessening the stress factors in your life does help ensure that you stay fit and beautiful in the long run. Tension impacts everyone differently. Your face could break out in hives, you’ve developed circles under the eyes, you ache all over, and you could lose that healthy glow in your face and skin. Get a massage, facial, or anything that takes you out of the situation even for a moment.

What also helps is having a tight network of friends. Plan some time with your pals and know when to treat yourself. There’s nothing better than a reward for all the hard work. As for the time you put in your work, it’s still best to try to get things done early even if you claim that you are able to work efficiently and deliver during crunch time. It’s tempting to slack off from time to time, as you should, but you also have to know when things should be done. Try to see the bright side of your work and get in the mood because that is the only way you can become productive. Try to let go of habits that encourage slacking, cramming, and procrastinating. Change your attitude and habits. You become much happier this way.

So, come to work early, clear your emails from the day before, and draft presentations and reports while the whole place isn’t as noisy. You’ll find that you get more tasks done if you don’t let anything distract you. When you get home at the end of the day, you’ll see that you won’t have too much work-related stuff on your mind. Besides, you also give yourself more time to do your personal rituals.

The way to live life is to be decisive. Don’t do things just to make other people happy and never be among those people who pay more attention to what would please everyone else. You simply cannot ignore what you want and think is right. You need some me-time and set aside a day that you could simply enjoy the company of people who don’t ask too much of you. The best way to deal with stress is to schedule your work so that you are able to allot time for all the areas in your life.

Everyone who lives in today’s society knows what it is like to feel the pressure of the demands placed on you. Sometimes these things just pile up and you can’t help but feel the tension radiating through every pore of your body. Then, your health suffers and you are forced to stay home. Nonetheless, you still try to insist that you can handle it for fear of having work pile up on you even more. When these things happen, you simply have to throw the trowel and give in to your health needs. You need to listen to your body before it completely gives up on you.

Very often you are so busy trying to catch up with life’s demands that you don’t notice the subtle messages your body is trying to send you. Fact is, our bodies are constantly trying to tell us something. We should know because we feel these things every time they happen. Do we listen to them? Admittedly, not all of the time. The reality is that we tend to ignore the hints until it is too late.

When we don’t get enough rest, we feel the repercussions in so many different ways. Some of us get the sniffles, others sore muscles, while the rest just get plain sick. When this happens, our bodies are telling us that it is high time to relax and rejuvenate. What do we do? We take a shot of Vitamin C or pop a pill. These aren’t necessarily enough to fully recuperate. Eventually, these subtle hints become cries for help. We end up either sick in bed for days, or worse, confined in the hospital.

Our bodies know our needs better than our minds do. Sometimes, we choose to ignore reality. Though we may be weak to the bones, we convince ourselves that a night’s rest is just the remedy for it. If you abuse your body and ignore its needs, you eventually will have to pay the price. The cost may vary, but the statement of account will still come.

Leading a healthy life means that you have to put your body’s needs first. You need to be aware of each call so that you can answer before it’s too late. To avoid dire consequences, you also need to know the importance of living healthy. The right kind of diet and exercise can do wonders. In fact, these are two main components of your body’s needs.

If you live a very hectic life and have no time for exercise, you need to make sure that you make time. Twenty minutes of workout daily helps a lot. It’s not asking for much. Though you may have to juggle your schedule a bit just to squeeze in some exercise time, the benefits will far outweigh the hassle. Our body is our temple, and we are only given one temple in this lifetime. The best way to care for it and to nurture it is to be aware of what it needs. Hear its cries and heed its calls, otherwise it may be too late.

Sometimes, we look back at the most difficult moments in our life and find that there are still some experiences that we have yet to accept. Getting over a situation as not as easy as we think, especially if we’ve been burned badly.

A recent divorce have left some men and women unwilling to get into another relationship, a death of a loved one has some denying what actually happened, or a fight with a friend has left people bitter and resentful.

Whatever the reason may be, these painful experiences can be traumatic. In fact, some carry the scars all throughout their lives.

Life has a way of revealing its secrets, and as cliché as this sounds, things really do happen for a reason. It’s easy to say when you’re not the one experiencing pain, right? Of course, but then again, we’ve all gone through some sort of hurt at one point or another. And as times passes, we do get over it and see the reasons behind it.

To start healing your life, you must first learn the value of forgiveness. This is a powerful thing because it helps us get past the barriers that hold us back. You never forget the things that have happened to you. The memory of it is ingrained deep within your heart. Forgiveness is not about forgetting as what some people might think. Forgiveness is simply an act of acceptance. Things happened to you, and these have emotionally scarred you. Acknowledge the pain and learn from it. If a person hurt you terribly and doesn’t even show any sign of remorse, know that it is not your job to change that person. Just accept the way he or she is, understand the situation, and walk away, if you have to. After all, you don’t have to be a martyr to become a better human being. What will set you apart will be your ability to move on and not look back.

Your heart is central to your healing. Though you think with your mind, your heart feels the pain. It is there when you’ll know if something is just too unbearable to face. Long for peace in your heart and in your soul. Work at it and surround yourself with love. It is your heart that allows you to live in this world, and it is also that which gives you access to a multitude of options for creating the life you truly want to live. It also helps to bless the people you encounter on your journey because they will be a reflection of the state you are in. They can act as a compass leading you to the thoughts and feelings you need to foster. They will help you as you rise beyond life’s ups and downs.

You have to first understand your feelings before anyone can. Ever met a person who left you confused no matter how you tried to comprehend their personality? These are the people who don’t understand themselves. You can approach life by believing in yourself with no explanation needed. Or you can be scientific and pragmatic, baffled over the things you are unable to explain. Know that healing only comes when there is the willingness to accept. With the gifts that life presents to you, you also must learn to accept the fact that everyone must work hard and overcome hurdles to know the true meaning of happiness.

Emotional Healing – A Heart that Heals

Physical injuries are easily noticed by people. Moreover, a cut, a broken bone, or a bruise can easily be treated by doctors. Emotional injuries, on the other hand, tend to run deeper. They hide in our subconscious and can sometimes stay there for a very long time. It can easily be hidden, but is much harder to treat. At some point in our lives, most of us have, in some considerable way, been hurt and wounded. The physical wounds can be seen and the forms of remedy are fairly straightforward and uncomplicated.

The hurt that takes place in our minds and in our hearts are not so easy to see. We choose to hide them in the darkest recesses of our minds. This is what many call denial. Although many of us know that it’s best to deal with the issues, we often find ourselves feeling powerless, unable to free ourselves from the chains that burden us with the weight. The more we try to run away from it, the faster it seems to catch up to us.

To be able to heal ourselves from the pain, we have to address it rather than run away. We often lack the ability to understand the true significance of coping with it. Fact is, when we face these issues, we are able to understand the reasons behind it. Our experiences sometimes tell us to have expectations that are not necessarily accurate. We live in this small box and refuse to see anything beyond what is real to us. At the heart of healing is an experience. It is being able to live in the moment of suffering rather than locking ourselves away and shutting out the rest of the world.

We try to find ways to cope with it, maybe through alcohol or by whisking ourselves to a place far away. We have to allow ourselves to feel what is deep inside us to become aware of reality. After all, we can never run away from it and stalling only seems to make things worse. Whatever may have caused this deep pain, we should cease to continually question the entire situation. Whether it is the loss of a loved one or a fight with a friend, things happen simply because they were meant to.

What we most need during these trying times is the presence of people who truly and unconditionally love us. Love can come in many forms: in the comforting embrace of a family member, in the prayers of a friend, or in the good wishes of the people we meet. When the pain is just too unbearable to bear, it is not always possible to respond to it immediately. We need to constantly experience these little blessings in order to respond to it. That is why it is most important to cultivate healthy relationships with the people that surround us. What happens if you’ve surrounded yourself with a great support system is the ability to get over the pain more quickly. We have to give love to get love. Believe me, this will be your greatest blessing because we know that we will always have someone to lean on when the burden just gets too heavy.

Spare Time - With the very busy world that we live in, it’s often hard to squeeze in some quality time for ourselves. Some people work hard and don’t get enough rest for months at a time.

Spare Time – With the very busy world that we live in, it’s often hard to squeeze in some quality time for ourselves. Some people work hard and don’t get enough rest for months at a time. If you look at statistics, the number of breakdowns experienced by people continues to increase. Why? It’s simply because people have forgotten to take care of themselves. They work and take care of their duties thinking that they don’t need a break. They find that finishing a task is more imperative than giving themselves a moment’s breather. They continue to trudge through life, until one day, they simply collapse and lose control.

I’m all for hard work and determination. Success can only be attained if these two traits are present. But we also need to know when to say that enough is enough. Our minds need to rest, or else it can fail us when we most need it. In fact, universities recommend that students study ahead of time. Last minute cramming can lead to lack of sleep. On the day of the test, many of these students have had total mental blackouts, instances wherein everything they read about and studied for just leaves their mind. Everything has simply flown out the window, and everything they’ve worked for has become moot.

If there’s one way to enjoy life, it’s knowing the importance of rest. We do need to fulfill all our responsibilities. But we also need to learn how to enjoy life and bask in its unique moments, lest we forget what we’re really here for. We are all blessed with friends and family. If we don’t give ourselves enough time to spend with them, then we may as well watch all our relationships crumble. No one wants this to happen to them. While many do go on vacations with their loved ones, they also take their work with them. This simply isn’t quality time.

So, how do we actually get to enjoy our spare time? Here are a few tips to follow:

•	Inform everyone at work so that they will know not to bother you.
•	Finish what needs to be done and keep the pending items safe in a drawer.
•	Write down what you need to work on when you get back.
•	Know that your friends, family and loved ones are just as important as your work.
•	Give yourself time to reflect on your life and work out ways in which you can balance everything.
•	Keep yourself surrounded with friends during your spare time to lessen the chances of thinking about your responsibilities.
•	Learn how to organize your life.
•	Learn to ask for help when you have difficulty sorting something out.

The most important thing to know here is that we’re not alone. We have people we can count on, as long as we also know when to help a person in need. Your friends are there to help you rejuvenate your soul and keep you from breaking down. Life just seems less tough when you have someone to lean on. Remember, as we enjoy our spare time, we need not feel guilty. We simply are enjoying life and we are giving ourselves a chance to recharge and bring back the enthusiasm we have for work.

Stress cannot be avoided, as much as you would like to at all costs. However there are responsibilities you just can’t ignore, and unfortunately, some of these are accompanied by anxiety.

In the most stressful of days, everyone needs some for that famous TLC, or what is more commonly known as tender love and care. When you feel like you’re about to jump out of your skin, tear your hair out, and throw yourself out a window, maybe it’s time to mentally remove yourself from the situation and see things in a bigger and better perspective. Stress cannot be avoided, as much as you would like to at all costs. However there are responsibilities you just can’t ignore, and unfortunately, some of these are accompanied by anxiety.

Sometimes giving up just seems to be the best solution. Unfortunately, taking the easy way out is often the worst thing you could do. Yes, you have to learn how to let go, but a lot of things just can’t be solved that way. What do you do when the time comes that you have to deal with everything, face up to your decisions, and take all the consequences? Running away is certainly not an option. This is the coward’s way out. Just remember, being scared is not necessarily a bad thing. It’s what you do when you’re faced with fear that counts. When you successfully deal with bad situations, take the time to treat yourself with a reward. It helps inspire you to do better every time a form of harassment comes into your life.

One thing many people resort to when they need to unwind is have themselves a “spa day.” The term intrinsically assumes the idea of health. Thus, many believe this to be a wisely spent day. A day of relaxation trumps anything that comes next. This is the ultimate way to spoil yourself, a way to reward yourself for all your hard work. Unfortunately, spending the day at a spa can be costly. It only affirms the notion that all good things come at a price. The good news is, this doesn’t have to be the case. As a matter of fact, there are more than hundreds of ways to celebrate your triumphs, many of which require little or no money.

When things become too rough to handle, a walk in the park does wonders. The nice fresh air and the smell of flowers is nature’s version of an energy drink. If the park isn’t your thing, maybe you can call friends and ask them out to a movie. If that still doesn’t cut it, a day spent at the beach should do the trick. The idea is to do the things you love. Rewards aren’t there to tell you to get your wallets out and spend. The idea behind it is to let you feel that you are also worth something and that you deserve the goodness in life because you’ve been a responsible person. Whatever it is that you like, you have to set aside some quality time for it so you are able to see things clearly and in there perspective after you’re refreshed.

A good method to use is to have a list of things you must accomplish in say, 10 years. Include things that are not necessarily related to work. Make it as holistic as possible, bearing in mind that you also need to spend time with those who are close to you on a more personal level. After all, pampering is not a benefit that only some of us should enjoy, it’s everybody’s birthright!

We know that life is not always a walk in the park, so to speak. Problems come in two forms: ones that are easy to solve and ones that look nearly impossible to overcome. It’s simple to say that life is sweet when we are able to overcome a difficult situation. When things start to go against us, we forget about our basic beliefs and let situations like these affect our overall outlook.

The secret to a happy life is in being optimistic; to always see the glass as half-full. The tricky part comes when we encounter roadblocks along the way. It takes a lot of practice to become a positive person, but once we do become that kind of person, we will live happier lives. Remember, happiness is not a state of mind that can be achieved with just a snap of our fingers. Happiness is a choice we make and it is the attitude we need to inculcate in ourselves every single day.

If you need to take some time off to become the kind of person that oozes out confidence and that brings warmth to everyone, then by all means, do so. Take a step back and reevaluate your life if you must. If the work you do makes you an angry person, then maybe it’s high time that you rethink your career path.

Strive for happiness with the following steps listed below:

1. Write down the things that make you happy – make an inventory of all your dreams, ask yourself how you can achieve them, and start working on them now. The tendency to procrastinate is what gets you into trouble. The longer you sulk, then the bigger the problems become.

2. Have a healthy outlet for your anger – you need to let your frustrations out. Talk to someone if you must or go to the gym to pump out those happy hormones. Studies show that people who exercise are more readily able to find solutions to their problems.

3. Have a support system – with great friends and a caring family, the burden doesn’t have to entirely rest on your shoulders.

4. Be thankful for what you have – the saying, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” is sheer genius. Life may not be all that you wanted it to be, but you also need to know that you are blessed with other things as well. Face the problem head on and see the good that comes out of it.

5. Pray – believing in a higher power has gotten many people out of even the toughest of situations. The idea that there is someone out there looking over everyone is sometimes enough for people to continue on and pursue their goals.

Being too hard on yourself can sometimes hinder you from being victorious. What stops you from pursuing your path? If it’s because you just don’t believe in yourself that much, then you need to know that mistakes can only slow you down. You still can move on after you slip-up because at least then you’ll know what you shouldn’t do. It’s not how many times you fall that counts, but the number of times you got up despite the hard fall.

Managing Stress on Busy Days

Feeling like a lead weight is on your shoulders is probably a very common feeling. With the busy lives we lead, we can’t help but feel that there aren’t enough hours during the day, as if the 24 hours that were allotted to us weren’t enough to cover all our priorities.

We can all honestly say though that the overwhelming feeling of having too many things to do is, at some point, our own doing.

When it comes to work, you have to ask yourselves if it’s all worth it. If your efforts bring a promise of triumph, then by all means, push yourself forward. Giving up is probably one of the biggest mistakes you can ever make when you strive to win. Every trial surpassed is a step closer to your goal.

Now, if you’ve made up your mind about going forward and overcoming all the hurdles, here are a few helpful tips that will make your mission easier:

1. Focus on what needs to be done – with the amount of work you still have to do, you need to know which elements are your priorities. Lower priority tasks can be rescheduled while you concentrate on the higher priority tasks.

2. Break down your schedule and allot a reasonable amount of time for each of the tasks – this applies more to the smaller tasks. While you cannot let go of and forget about the trivial matters, you only need to give a fraction of the overall time completing the less important chores.

3. Eliminate clutter – if you find yourself working in a chaotic environment, you will soon see that you also become less productive. Clutter distracts your mind, and if you need to clear the space before starting anything, then by all means, do so. In the end, you can concentrate better and finish your work faster.

4. Set goals – without goals, you simply drift through life like a fish that follows the current of the sea. Goals give you the adrenaline that you need to complete what needs to be done. Attaining your objectives will make you happy, and one way to get to this happy place is by working towards it.

5. Focus – make sure that you set up a corner in your house where there are fewer distractions. Don’t give in to temptation and position your work station beside the television. Be strong, be firm, even with yourself.

6. Know when to pamper yourself – spoil yourself and give yourself small rewards. The gratifying portion of your day does not have to be elaborate. In fact, a simple neck message or a cup of herbal tea will do.

7. Ask for help – know that even the heroes in movies needed help at some point. For us normal people, we would most likely need it even more. Seek the advice of friends and know that you can also delegate tasks to the people in your life.

If you continue to stress about everything, your health is bound to fail. It’s not a choice between your job and health. It’s simply a matter of balance, in knowing when to say no and let go. If the amount of work reaches the point wherein your health and relationships are affected, then maybe it’s high time to do sit down and consider rethinking what you’re doing.

Stress Breathing Techniques – Do NOT Take A Deep Breath

When we begin feeling stressed, we have a tendency to also begin breathing faster and shallowly, which reduces the volume of carbon dioxide in our blood and causes blood vessels to constrict. More often than not, this can lead to hyper-ventilation, which throws our metabolism completely out of whack!

Coaches and athletes understand the need to practice good breathing habits to keep metabolism’s in balance and produce up to 99% of the body’s energy aerobically. Conversely, those of us who have poor breathing habits experience a drop to around 85%, which is a significant decline in aerobic energy production.

The physiological changes caused by poor breathing habits throws off our pH balance, the ratio of O2 to CO2 in the bloodstream, diminished energy and of course a feeling of anxiety or poor health in general. Although we naturally breathe autonomously, over the course of our lifetimes we actually learn to breathe incorrectly. It’s a behavior that can be unlearned given time and effort.

That said, we first need to become aware of our breathing habits, by actually listening to ourselves breathe. We need to time how many breaths we take per minute and if that number is much over 12 in a relaxed state, we need to think about how we can best re-learn to breathe normally.

The first step is to avoid holding the stomach in, preventing the diaphragm from working properly. Relax your stomach muscles and inhale slowly through your nose to a count of 3. Now hold that breathe for a second and then exhale to a count of 6. Repeat that three times and then allow yourself to breath normally. The entire exercise should have taken you 30 seconds.

Since a good 70% of your body’s waste is eliminated through exhaling, you’re going to always attempt to double the time spent exhaling compared to inhaling. This allows your body to balance its metabolism and pH levels and well as increase the amount of energy produced. In stressful situations, your body will literally relax as you do it and your fight or flight response will quickly recede.

As a quick fix, this type of breathing technique works wonders for calming yourself down, but does not address the larger issue of learning to breath this way all of the time. To do this, you need to remain aware of your breathing habits and continually remind yourself to stay in control of your breathing.

Over time, you will develop the habit, but meanwhile, you may need prompting. One solution is to set a timer (for example on a digital watch) to beep every 3 to 5 minutes as a reminder to check your breathing. This helps because as we submerse ourselves into a given task, we can easily lose track of our breathing without realizing it.

You may even find it helpful to repeat a phrase during your practice like, “I’m breathing in”, “I’m breathing out”, to help you establish the proper rhythm. Your goal is to allow your body to take over autonomously with proper breathing habits as a result of your practice.

If you condition yourself to breath properly, especially in stressful situations, you will alleviate the stress and anxiety of it and remain calm and rational. Good breathing habits are learned, so training yourself beginning today will get you back on track to a happier, healthier you!

Learning how to relieve stress, and putting these methods to use are critical your overall health and happiness. Try to learn to accept what you can’t change.

Stress can have a number of adverse affects on your health, both short-term and long-term. If you’re experiencing some of the following symptoms, it could indicate that you could benefit from some advice on how to relieve stress before your health suffers any worse than it already has. Feelings of anger, fear or helplessness are common indicators of stress, as is insomnia. Stress can cause headaches and pain in the jaw, neck and back. Habitual smoking, drinking, overeating and drug abuse are also caused by stress.

Stress is how your body responds to change. And situations that cause stress in one person may not cause stress in another. It’s a very individual experience. One person may become tense when driving over high bridges, while another may enjoy the view. The thought of skydiving terrifies some people, but others find it thrilling. It’s nearly impossible to classify any particular situation as stressful, because what causes stress in one person could be a source of enjoyment for the next. The key is to identify and manage what is stressful for you personally, because letting stress go unmanaged can have life-threatening health consequences.

Things you feel that you have no control over can be upsetting. But remember that it’s not the situation, but how you deal with it that’s important. You can’t control everything that happens to you, but you can choose how you handle stressful situations.

Here are some tips for relieving your stress:

Focus on your breathing and breathe slow, deep and deliberately. Picture a peaceful scene in your mind.

Exercise regularly. Exercising releases tension from your body. Find something you enjoy that gets the major muscle groups going. Jogging, walking, swimming or bicycling are all excellent choices.

Count to ten slowly and deliberately. This helps you to pause and relax before reacting to a stressful situation.

Do some stretching exercises several times during the day. Stretching relaxes the muscles and reduces tension.

Have a friend massage the back of your neck, shoulders and upper back. These muscles get especially tense when you are stressed.

Take hot showers and baths.

Listen to relaxing music.

Talk to your family and friends about what is causing you stress.

Seek help when you need it. If you have recurring headaches and neck or upper back pain, and are having problems sleeping, you should see your doctor.

Learning how to relieve stress, and putting these methods to use are critical your overall health and happiness. Try to learn to accept what you can’t change. Not everything is going to happen the way you want it to. Train yourself to look for the good in what appears to be a bad situation, talk to others about your troubles, and try to mentally remove yourself from the situation then evaluate it from the outside looking in.
