Joyce Meyer’s struggle to help women all over the globe has won her the title and the recognition that she now has, and this time around she moves forward to tackle the issue of confidence in her book The Confident Woman. Every time the issue of gender difference is discussed, we all understand that women are the most insecure ones. This is how our society has always been, the men are the strong ones and the women are the weak ones. And even though time itself has proven that men and women are just equal in nearly all aspects of life, a lot of women are still trapped with the mindset and self-image of inferiority. Why do you believe is that?
Meyer wrote this book The Confident Woman to be easily related to women of any age. And since this is written by Christian author Joyce Meyer, this book is filled with religious context. The Confident Woman starts off with a retelling of the first biblical story, the life of Adam and Eve. Meyer states that both men and women are equal, and that they were designed to complement each other not repel each other. And for the following sections, Meyer uses more texts from the Bible to support her point that men and women are not meant to be enemies.
However, The Confident Woman does not focus on the account of gender difference alone, but also the battle of confidence happening between women themselves. The Confident Woman walks us to the stages of how our society was formed, giving us an overview of what events in the past have led women of the present to feel insecure. We all know about the images that makes a woman ideal: prim, meek, smart, reserved, and the list goes on. But Meyer says that these are not what women are really all about, these are the collected misconceptions. But what’s disappointing is that a lot of women are actually living up to follow these rules.
Also, Meyer discusses about fear and how it is the main influence that pushes women to bow down to the unnecessary rules of society. Then she also suggests what weapon every woman should use to fight these fears, a true connection with God. Because no matter what happens, it is only through confidence in God that people really find confidence in themselves.
Joyce Meyer did an amazing job when it comes to defining everything that makes women fearless. With her straight and clear elaboration of the seven characteristics that makes a confident woman, every woman can easily apply it to themselves. It’s funny when you think about why women act the way they do, and how eventually many of these things are brought upon by lack of confidence. The Confident Woman has a message that it successfully gives to its readers, it is not fully original, but it is stated in exquisite originality.
