However, some others also find this practice a little unethical. The second group likes to leave everything to the God’s Will. They hold that planning for death is actually interfering with Divine Will, which is essentially an unethical practice. Now the question is, is it really unethical to plan for death? Let us get into the pros and cons of death planning and see if it is unethical practice.
- Euthanasia and its moral implications – Strictly speaking, practices such as euthanasia do not fall under such plans. Yet, many people are concerned about it and so we will take it up first. Now, the term euthanasia refers to the practice of intentionally ending a life in order to relieve pain and suffering. Indeed, the plan can relive your caretakers from making all kinds of decisions at a time they may feel a little too emotional. Your doctors too will feel safer because such plans will also relieve them of all the responsibilities. Indeed, if it is drawn by experts, such advance care plans can forestall all kind legal tangles that often pop up for no reason at all.
- From personal point of view – Indeed, if you believe that life is valuable only as long as we have something to contribute, you should opt for such advance planning. Being able to die with dignity and absolving your family and doctor of all responsibilities are the two most important advantage of planning for death. Moreover, such planning gives the person a very deep satisfaction. However, before you opt for such planning, do try to understand the nature of your illness and about the available treatment as well as the consequence of such planning.
- Planning is just an option – Yes, preplanning for death has many benefits. However, if you feel a little odd about the whole affair, there is no law, which says you must leave any plan behind. Similarly, to buy or not to buy a preneed plan actually depends solely upon you and nobody has any right to make you change your decisions. However, know that by buying preneed plan, you can lock the cost of your funeral at today’s level and this is no mean advantage. That is why it is important to consider every options before you make any decision. Make sure whatever decision you take is fair on everybody and that includes you.
- Paperwork Involved – However, if you do decide to plan your death, make sure that you have documented your wishes in clear and legally binding terms. Generally, such plans consist of making a living will and entrusting somebody with DPOA. Let us look into them.
- Living Will – Such a will is created while the person is still mentally and physically alert.
